This was a short promo piece created for Dover Street Entertainment, the flagship sponsor of the 38th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards at the May Fair Hotel, London. Dover Street is a relatively new production company based in Soho, and develops and produces meaningful film and television projects.
This is a great example how you can gain extra mileage from a planned event through film. The awards evening was a prestigious and glamorous event attended by celebrities including Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Lesley Manville and Hugh Grant. It therefore made sense for Dover Street to capture and promote their association with it beyond simply what the awards’ in-house event videography and publicity could do.
We therefore designed a short promo video that Dover Street could use on their website and social media channels to show they are a force to be reckoned with. Firstly we begin with establishing shots of the hotel to highlight that we are in a prestigious location before quickly moving to time-lapse footage of a red carpet and media wall being built, water bottles added to cinema seating and branded signage appearing – this all builds anticipation and tells us something big is coming.
Next we hear from Graeme A Scott, the Co-Founder of Dover Street about who they are – a production company and a teller of meaningful stories – and why they are keen to support the awards. Next we hear from Critics Circle Awards Chairman Rich Cline about what it is like to work with a sponsor who understands the world of celebrity and the entertainment industry, again underlining Dover Street’s good fit. Next we move to more event-style videography for some red-carpet arrivals and press junket coverage – this is the bit that gets anyone excited. This can then flow into the packed auditorium applauding, where we hear Rich’s thanks to Dover Street for their sponsorship. We also see Graeme being welcomed up on stage to introduce Jude Law, to present the Dilys Powell Award to Kate Winslet – if ever there was a great moment to capture for a company, this is it. Finishing with Dover Street’s logo, URL and social links encourages the viewer to find out more about the company.
So in just 60 seconds we have established the company and built massive credibility by highlighting their event sponsorship to the max. As Graeme says in his typically calm, understated manner, “all in all, a very productive night!”
